A crowd of people showed up at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery Tuesday morning to honor a veteran laid to rest.

Jack Andrew Goodson Jr. was born in August of 1949 and served as a Lance Corporal in the United States Marine Corps from 1968 to 1970.

Since no next of kin were able to attend, Goodson Jr. was expected to have no one at his funeral.

However, a number of veterans and community members were there to show support.

"It's part of your heritage. When you said I do, you all become one. We're all brothers and sisters never leave them alone," said Master Sergeant Retired Robert Whitney who represented Fort Hood Area Vietnam Veterans of America at the funeral.

City of Killeen Mayor Pro Tem Jim Kilpatrick accepted the United States flag on behalf of Goodson Jr.

The funeral was just one of many the cemetery has hosted in an effort to make sure no veteran is buried alone.
