Man found in Nolan Creek identified as suspect wanted for random shootings

KILLEEN, TX — A man who was found dead in Nolan Creek next to the Bell County Indigent Health Services building in Killeen has been identified as the suspect wanted in a series of random shootings that led to a citywide search.

According to the Killeen Police Department, around 3:15 p.m. on October 16, someone was walking in the field by the building, located on 309 Priest Drive, when they found 43-year-old Nathan Erick Nance in the creek.

Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke pronounced the death at 3:40 p.m.

Killeen PD initially said the body was unidentifiable. Nance's body has been sent to the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy.

On October 10, Nance was identified as a suspect in a series of random shootingsacross Killeen. Nance allegedly was running in the 600 block of West Hallmark and randomly shooting his handgun.

The shooting prompted a citywide search for Nance, however the search was called off after authorities were unable to locate him.

Nance's cause of death is pending autopsy results.

Members of the Crime Scene Unit and Homicide Division were on-scene investigating. Killeen PD cannot confirm if the case is a homicide.
