BRYAN, TX — As sheltering in place continues, it’s also important to practice some other safety precautions, like locking your car doors.

The city of Bryan saw nearly two dozen vehicle burglarized the morning of April 4th.

According to the Bryan Police Department, the burglaries occurred to residents in four Bryan neighborhoods.

"One area was the 200 block of Kosarek, another area was the 2900 block of Montana and then the other area was the 4100 block of Old Hearne," says Public Information Office Kelley McKethan. "Those areas were mainly targeted.”

Items that were stolen include a bag of tools, a wallet, some loose change and a gun.

“Now I will say on a positive note, most of these vehicles had nothing taken. So that means people are removing their items but they could tell someone had been in their car because things were rummaged through,” said McKethan.

While this wave of burglaries seems random, some residents like Bennie are saying they’ve had enough.

“This is getting out of hand it really is getting out of hand,” he said.

The Bryan Police Department say the best way to get a handle on these crimes is by reporting any suspicious activity in your neighborhood.

"The community is doing really well at reporting these because a lot of times I think in the past someone would rummage through the car, nothing was taken and they wouldn’t report it," explains McKethan. "Now, we are getting more of those reports.”
