COLLEGE STATION, TX — Texas A&M's veterinary class of 2020 has left its mark in more ways then one at the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences Complex.

When the 100th class of Aggie veterinarians walked into the complex, it was a momentous first.

“We were the first class in the new buildings and so the first is always a little bit of growing pains,” explains Taylor Adams, President of Class 2020.

But some growing pains occurred that Adams could have been expected.

“It’s kind of a hard pill to swallow," says Adams. "This is a day that most of us had gone to school for 20 years.”

While some vet schools around the country postponed or canceled graduation for the class of 2020, Texas A&M's tradition of excellency found a way to celebrate...virtually.

“We tried to move to something that would maintain the special nature of our ceremony," explains Dr. Karen Cornell CVM Associate Dean of Professional Programs. "The uniqueness of it. The intimacy setting of it."

Though class of 2020 won't physically be together on May 6th, Dr. Cornell says they'll be able to recite the veterinarian’s oath together, just like the 99 classes of Aggies before them.

“We will be streaming the video that we’ve created and then we will stop at a point and go live on zoom and actually do the veterinarian oath live via zoom,” expalins Cornell.

Those interested in watching can visit the CVM’s Facebook page and click “going” on the DVM Class of 2020 Virtual Graduation event.

The ceremony will begin at 2 p.m.
