Copperas Cove elections results are in

By Kevin Davis

COPPERAS COVE - The special election results can't come soon enough for a city starved for government.  Copperas Cove has been without a city council for months now due to a lack of enough members, but Tuesday night they took the next step towards refilling their ranks in government.

The new city council members are:

  • Cheryl Meredith, an escrow officer for Land Exchange Abstract and Title.
  • Charles Downard, retired military and a former city employee.
  • Danny Palmer, retired military who moved to Copperas Cove for his kids.
  • Bill Stephens, who works for the army research laboratory as a computer scientist

The votes will be canvassed on February 20th.  The candidates will be sworn in on March 3rd, which is when the city council will be able to tackle a backlog of issues that have built up since the last meeting in November.

Four members were ousted from the council, leaving the city without enough members to meet a quorum.

There will also be another election coming up in May for the council seats, so these newcomers won't have too much time to get comfortable.
