Congestive Heart Failure Clinic
The Congestive Heart Failure Clinic at Providence opened in 2001 as a physician-directed and nurse managed clinic providing comprehensive care or patients with the diagnosis of heart failure. Working with the physician to provide long-term outpatient management are experienced, cardiovascular nurses certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support with specialized training in the treatment of congestive heart failure. Infusion therapy, medication assistance, and in-depth teaching about the disease process and lifestyle are just a few of the services available to the CHF Clinic patient.
Providence's pacemaker/ICD Clinic, established in 1991, was the first in Waco. This clinic provides education and follow-up to patients who have received pacemakers, implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICD), and implanted loop recording devices. This physician-directed, nurse-managed clinic provides care to over 2,00 patients in the Central Texas area in both the inpatient and outpatient setting. Care is provided by Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certified nurses with specialized training in implanted cardiac devices.
Protime and Lipid Clinic
Another of Providence's physician-directed, nurse-managed outpatient clinics is the Protime Clinic for patients on Coumadin (warfarin) therapy. Clinic staff provides comprehensive teaching, schedule and arrange or protime lab, adjust anticoagulation dosage based on clinic guidelines and physician orders, monitor for side effects, manage interruptions in therapy, and monitor patient compliance.
The nurse-managed, physician-directed Lipid Clinic is an outpatient clinic for patients with complex, difficult to manage lipid disorders. Because of the complex nature of the dyslipidemias treated in the Lipid Clinic, patients are generally first referred to a cardiologist with subsequent referral to the Lipid Clinic. Clinic staff provide comprehensive teaching, schedule and arrange for lab adjust medication and therapy based on physician order, monitor for side effects, and monitor patient compliance.
Cardiac Rehabilitation Center
The R. W. Crosthwait, Sr. Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Center is a natural continuation of the medical services offered at the Heart Hospital at Providence. The center is designed to help individuals who have suffered heart attacks, undergone cardiac surgery, or suffer from cardiovascular disease to regain and maintain his or her maximum quality of life.
