Despite winning five straight games to close out the regular season, the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men’s basketball team dropped two spots to eighth in the South Region in the third regular season NCAA Division III Regional Rankings of the 2018-19 season, released on Wednesday. Randolph-Macon is #1 in the ranking with Centre College ranked #2. Emory University is ranked third, Washington & Lee took over the #4 spot with Guilford rounding out the top five. Lynchburg and Roanoke College are also just ahead of the Cru in the eight-team South Region ranking this week.

The NCAA Regional Rankings are used to determine selections and seedings for the NCAA Division III National Championships. Wins over regionally ranked opponents is another part of the criteria used in selecting and seeding those teams. This the final regional ranking released to the public prior to Monday’s announcement of the field for the NCAA Division III National Championships.

The Cru finished the regular season at 20-5 overall and won the American Southwest Conference West Division with an 11-5 mark in league play. UMHB is a #1 seed in the ASC Championship Tournament and will face East Texas Baptist in a 2:30 pm Quarterfinal game Thursday in Richardson.
