Officials are investigating after a letter addressed to a county official contained a powdery substance.

The Hill County Sheriff's Office said that on Feb. 14, the records manager at the sheriff's office opened a letter. Immediately after opening, officials say a white powder fell onto her skin.

The administrative area was quarantined and the manager was taken to medical staff to be evaluated, where she was cleared.

Early tests of the powder revealed the possibility of cocaine and prescription medicine in the powder. The return address was from an inmate at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Information and details about the inmate are not being released at this time.

Hill County Emergency Management, Heart of Texas Emergency Response from the Waco Fire Department and the Hillsboro Department of Public Safety responded to the scene.

The offices at the sheriff's office have resumed to normal.
