Two fires caused by heat lamps have left 6 puppies dead in a matter of 24 hours in Waco. Four pets were lucky to survive.

On Monday, the Waco Fire Department responded to a shed fire around 1:30 a.m. in the 900 block of N. 31st St. A heat lamp that was mounted to keep six Siberian husky puppies warm caused the fire.

The fire spread onto another structure, causing an estimated $25,000 in damage.

Four puppies died on scene, and two others were euthanized due to their injuries. Two adult dogs were able to escape the shed during the fire and are doing okay.

Not even 24 hours earlier, the fire department responded to another similar fire in the 3900 block of James Ave.

This fire was also caused by heat lamp that was placed in a shed to keep pets warm. Fortunately, the dogs were able to escape and none of them died.

This fire caused $1,500 worth of damage. The fire was reported on Sunday at 6:44 a.m.

For fire safety, please remember that it is dangerous to leave heat lamps alone and around pets that could knock them over.
