HOUSTON (KTRK/CNN) – Health officials in Houston confirm seven cases of the mumps at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility.

The seven people are adults who got sick during detainment.

City of Houston health officials say they're working with the facility on infection control and will do an on-site visit soon.

"While this number of seven is small, for this community that's an uptick - that's one of the reasons why it has our attention," said Dr. David Persse, the EMS Physician Director with the City of Houston. "It may be coming from countries that don't have high vaccination rates."

The mumps, which is caused by a virus, can be prevented by a vaccine.

Most people with the mumps recover without serious complications.
