KILLEEN, TX (KXXV) -

Killeen police are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that happened Wednesday morning. They are looking for a second motorcycle involved in the initial traffic violation.

They are asking for the operator of the second motorcycle to contact the department at (254) 501-8800.

According to police, at approximately 12:15 a.m. a patrol officer was traveling northbound on W.S. Young Drive when he observed a black motorcycle traveling southbound towards Stagecoach Road commit a traffic violation. There was also another motorcycle on the road.

The officer turned his patrol vehicle in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop on the motorcycle. The driver of one motorcycle continued to travel and turned onto Stagecoach Road at a high rate speed when the officer lost sight of it. The other motorcycle pulled over as required by law.

When the officer approached the 1300 block of Stagecoach Road, he located a motorcycle in the roadway and a man was lying in a nearby parking lot.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of the motorcycle failed to slow down for a curve while traveling and collided into a wall, causing him to be thrown off the motorcycle and struck a tree.

The driver of the motorcycle, 21-year-old Caden Michael Shunk died from his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A justice of the peace ordered an autopsy to be performed at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas.

Killeen police are still investigating the crash.
