Baylor Women's Tennis falls to No. 17 Miami, 5-2

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — No. 17 Miami (5-1) defeated the Baylor (5-3) women’s tennis team 5-2 Friday at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. The Hurricanes took the doubles point and Baylor split decisions on the singles court.

The Bears’ Kris Sorokolet took a 7-5, 6-2 win on the No. 4 singles court, and Jessica Hinojosa took victory 6-4, 6-2 on the No. 2 singles court.

Miami earned wins on the No. 3 and No. 2 doubles court for the first point of the match. Then, the Hurricanes took wins on No. 6, No. 3, and No. 1 on the singles court. Baylor’s Angie Shakhraichuk won the first set 6-1 on the No. 3 court, but Miami’s Yuna Ito took the match by retirement due to illness after leading 4-1 in the second set.

The Hurricanes evened the all-time series with Baylor at eight apiece with the win.

NOTABLES VS. WICHITA STATE

Sorokolet’s win on the No. 4 four court was her 15th career win in singles in dual match play.

Kraus’ loss was to No. 7-ranked Estela Perez-Somarriba, and it was her first defeat of the season, moving to 6-1 on the year.
