Baylor Women's Tennis makes it five-straight wins by downing Wichita State, 4-1

AUSTIN, Texas — The Baylor women’s team won its fifth-consecutive match Saturday at the Texas Tennis Center, defeating Wichita State 4-1. The Bears will move on to face Texas Sunday at 1 p.m. as a part of the ITA National Kickoff weekend.

Livia Kraus, Jessica Hinojosa, Angie Shakhraichuck all picked up wins on the singles court while freshman Paula Barañano earned her first victory of the season to help the Bears seal the win.

The Shockers (0-1) took their only point in doubles by winning the No. 1 and No. 2 courts. But, Baylor’s Shakhraichuk, Barañano, Hinojosa and Kraus all won in two sets to ensure the Bears’ fifth win of the season.

NOTABLES VS. WICHITA STATE

Kraus became the first Bear to win six on the singles court this season, improving to 6-0.

The sophomore, Kraus, has won her last 15 dual-match decisions consecutively and has won 21 of her last 22 singles matches overall.

Shakhraichuk’s win on the No. 4 court was her 35th career singles win.

No. 6-ranked Texas defeated Middle Tennessee State Saturday 4-0 to set up Sunday’s match with Baylor at 1 p.m. on the North Courts at the Texas Tennis Center.
