WACO, Texas – The Baylor women’s tennis team returns to action Saturday and Sunday in Austin at the ITA National Kickoff Weekend. The Bears (4-1) will take on Wichita State (0-0) Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Texas Tennis Center on the South Courts and will face either Texas or Middle Tennessee State Sunday based on the outcome.

If the Bears win, they will resume play Sunday at 1 p.m. vs. the winner of UT and MTSU, and if the Shockers win Saturday, Baylor will play at 11 a.m. Sunday vs. the loser of the Longhorns and Blue Raiders.

Wichita State debuts in 2019 season Saturday vs. Baylor after an 18-9 season in 2018 that saw the Shockers advance to the NCAA Tournament’s second round.

Middle Tennessee State enters the Texas match with a 1-1 record and was 19-8 a season ago, falling in the Conference USA title match to end the season. The Longhorns enter the season ranked No. 6 in the ITA Top 25, and Saturday also marks their first dual match of the season.

Baylor has four wins in a row after opening the season with a loss at Hawaii. The Bears are 2-0 all-time vs. Wichita State but haven’t faced the Shockers since March 27, 1992. BU is 1-0 vs. MTSU all-time, last playing the Blue Raiders in 2002 and Texas holds a 36-19 advantage in the series with Baylor, although the Bears have taken 19 of the last 23 decisions.
