The Baylor women’s tennis team (4-1) added two wins in consecutive matches against Rice and Prairie View A&M Monday at Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center.

The Bears overcame falling in doubles to the Owls by taking four-of-six matches on the singles court. Livia Kraus, Kris Sorokolet and Dominika Sujova continued their singles match winning streaks on courts one, three and six, respectively to give BU three points. However, it was Angie Shakhraichuk’s marathon tiebreaker that sealed the victory for the Bears. The junior handled the first set over Rice’s Anastasia Smirnova 6-1, but the visitor gave Shakhraichuk all she could handle in the second set. After knotting set No. 2 at six apiece, Shakhraichuk outlasted Smirnova 16-14 in the tiebreaker to take the win.

In the nightcap, Baylor took the doubles point by winning on the first two courts, and five of six Bears took singles wins, including freshman Stephanie Adames who won her first-career singles match.
