In less than two weeks, the IRS will begin accepting tax filings. Preparers are gearing up for the tax season to go into full swing.

“We’ve had a lot of calls to make appointments,” said Kekentia Grant, owner of All in One Tax Services in Killeen.

She says many companies are issuing employee tax documents early, allowing many to begin gathering what they need to file sooner.

“The only ones that I’m worried about are those that don’t know that they will be able to itemize anymore this year, so they are waiting for documents that they really don’t need to wait for,” said Grant.

Changes to the code could trip up some taxpayers in more ways than one, there will not be a schedule. Filers will not be able to itemize charitable donations, property taxes, mortgage interest and among other things.

“Meet with your tax practitioner to plan. Make sure that they have the right paperwork, or to at least call and have some advice,” said Grant.
