Central Texas schools are supporting families affected by the partial government shutdown.

Children of government employees who are not getting paid or have not been furloughed may be eligible to receive free or reduced-price breakfast and lunches at school.

Parents at schools that base those meals on eligibility, such as Copperas Cove and Midway, can submit applications now.

"I think it will just relieve a burden from them, if they don't have to worry about what their kids are going to eat for breakfast whether they think they are going to get a cold sandwich because they are not getting paid right now. At all of our schools, we offer hot meals, fresh fruits and vegetables," Midway ISD Food Service Director Colton Lawrence said.

The children who qualify will be able to receive reduced-price meals through the end of this school year.
