A City of Temple councilmember Mike Pilkington has resigned citing personal reasons.

In his Jan. 14 resignation letter, Pilkington said,

Being able to represent our city has been one of the greatest, most fulfilling things I have ever done. I believe our team has accomplished many great things and I am proud to have been a part of putting together the staff’s leadership team that I know, along with a great mayor and council, will continue the many amazing things that are making our city grow to be an even better place where people will enjoy living, working and visiting.

Pilkington was accused of driving while intoxicated in Corpus Christi, according to the Caller Times

The Times said that Pilkington was driving with another man on an ATV and began doing donuts on Whitecap Beach late December 2018.

The other man with Pilkington was thrown off the ATV and hit his head.

Officers on scene asked Pilkington to undergo a sobriety test and arrested after Pilkington for driving while intoxicated and unlawful possession of a weapon.

Pilkington was taken to the Corpus Christi city detention center.

The District 4 seat will be scheduled for a general election on May 9, 2019.
