Gov. Greg Abbott will be attending the funeral of Richard Overton on Saturday.
According to KXAN, Gov. Abbott will be joined by General John Murray of Army Futures Command, Austin Mayor Steve Adler and a member of Veterans’ Affairs. They will all be speaking at the funeral.
Overton died on Dec. 27 of pneumonia at a rehab facility in Austin.
He was 112 years old.
A public viewing is set to be held on Friday from noon to 7 p.m. at Cook-Walden Funeral Home.
The funeral will take place at Shoreline Church at 11 a.m., he will then be buried at Texas State Cemetery at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Overton will be buried next to his cousin, Volma Overton Sr., and will be honored with a 21-gun salute.
