Bastrop police said a woman was assaulted by a man going door-to-door asking residents if he could come inside their apartment and pray.
The man was seen in the 1200 block of Wilson Street carrying a black book going door-to-door. He asked residents if he could come inside and pray, and was turned down by several apartments.
Police said the man returned to one apartment and entered through an unlocked door. He then physically assaulted the woman inside in an attempt to sexually assault her.
She was taken to a hospital in Austin where police say she is in stable condition.
Bastrop police will be increasing its patrol in the area. If you see any suspicious activity, you're asked to call 911 immediately.
