The vacant seat on the Hewitt City Council has been filled.

U.S. Representative Bill Flores swore in Erica Bruce into the Hewitt City Council.

Just under a month after winning the runoff election, Bruce took her seat on the council during Monday night's meeting.

Bruce asked Flores, her longtime friend, to do the honors of swearing her in.

Flores gladly agreed, but says that he had received criticism for swearing in a Democrat. Flores added that no matter the political stance, he supports her vision.

"Anytime somebody wants to serve an office, whether it's in a local city council or is a county commissioner, all the way to be a center, ultimately maybe President someday, I want to support that person," said Flores.

Bruce said she hopes to serve her community well.
