According to a tweet by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, all federal employees will get Christmas Eve off, in addition to Christmas Day.

President Trump signed an Executive Order on Wednesday, closing all Executive Departments and Federal Agencies on Dec. 24.

But, the executive order also says that some offices may stay open and require some employees to work “for reasons of national security, defense, or other public need.”

Historically, there has been no consistency with federal employees receiving time off for Christmas Eve. Each President has handled the holiday season differently.

Last year, when Christmas landed on a Monday, workers did not receive an extra day off for Christmas Eve.

In 2012, President Obama gave federal employees the day off when Christmas Eve was on  Monday. In 2014, he closed the federal government the day after Christmas - and then in 2015, employees got a half day for Christmas Eve.

With President George W. Bush, he gave worked Christmas Eve off in 2001 and 2007.
