CHAMBERS COUNTY, TX (KTRK/CNN) – Body camera footage shows two Chambers County deputies run to pull a man from a burning vehicle. In the video, you can see them save the man just in the nick of time, pulling him from the extreme heat.

Five days after the incredible rescue, the deputies shared what was going through their minds that night.

The incident happened on state highway 124 south of Winnie in Chambers County last Thursday night.

The victim is now in stable condition at the hospital.

"My first thought was we can't let this guy burn to death right in front of us," Deputy Carlton Carrington said.

"I just tuned out all of the ambient noise and focused on doing what needed to be done," Braedon Boznango said.

Boznango has just been on the force for one year. Carrington is a 20 year veteran.

"I just remember watching the flames run up the man's face,” Carrington said. “There was I guess a draft. In my mind I've removed thousands of people from burning vehicles, but in my mind I never factored in the heat."

Still, they dragged him free of the passenger's seat. That heat so intense Boznango's body camera partially melted.

"It's what we do. It's our job. From the smallest thing to more severe cases like this," Boznango said.

The sheriff says it's more than that.  They are heroes plain and simple.
