For the sixth year in a row, a Central Texan is hosting her Annual Christmas Pet Food Drive for the Killeen Animal Shelter.

Special Victims Unit Detective Tanya Lawson said the drive all started when she visited the animal shelter while on the job.

"I was on patrol one day and I had to drop a dog off that was a stray dog, and I noticed that their food supply was low. So, I the next day stopped and asked, 'You know hey what's up with your food supply?' And they said, 'Well it comes out of their budget and they were low at the time. So, I started collecting the donation for that year," said Lawson.

Lawson said last year, with the help of the community, she donated nearly 3,000 pounds of food.

"And that was amazing. It was my biggest year last year and this year I hope to do more, but so far I only have 1,800 pounds of food, and I have four days left to get another thousand pounds," said Lawson.

Since last year was so successful, she is also hoping to give a great donation to Sparks of Life Kitten Rescue this year.

If you would like to help, you can donate on Lawson's GoFundMe Page, and donations can also be dropped off at the After Hours Veterinary Clinic located at 2501 South WS Young Drive in Killeen.

The clinic is matching each donation that is dropped off.
