Cru football avenged last season’s loss and hoisted the Stagg Bowl trophy over Mount Union after winning 24 to 16.

Mount Union got the scoring started first with a field goal and then a Cru fumble put the Purple Raiders in great field position.

One QB keeper later, and UMHB was down 10 points.

But the Cru didn’t panic, junior quarterback Jace Hammack tossed a touchdown to senior captain T.J. Joseph to make it 10-7.

Mount Union extended the lead by a field goal, but then UMHB came back again.

A Joseph jet sweep led to another big gain by senior running back Markeith Miller into the goal-line territory.

A wildcat formation to Miller led to a 14-13 first-half lead, but Mount Union was driving.

Fifteen seconds in the first and the Purple Raiders were on the Cru 41. Sophomore defensive back Jefferson Fritz picked off an errant Mount Union pass and UMHB went into the locker room up one at the break.
