West Police investigate theft of Christmas lights

The West Police Department is investigating the theft of Christmas lights early Wednesday morning.

The homeowner had surveillance video of the incident in the 900 block of Marable Street around 1:14 a.m.

The video shows someone ripping off the lights and stealing them before getting inside of an SUV.

According to West PD Chief Darryl Barton, the homeowner lost $100 after the theft.

"In any small town is not necessarily the value of what occurred. The fact that is Christmas. You hope that the community comes together int he Christmas spirit. We do have a few grinches out there. The Grinch doesn't just attack Whoville, unfortunately, they also come to West," Barton said.

If caught, the suspects could face theft charges.

According to Barton, people living int he area have also reported three other thefts involving Christmas decorations in the past two weeks.
