The McLane Children’s Medical Center is asking for toy donations for the holiday season.

Alice Douse Elementary in Killeen donated toys to children at the hospital on Saturday.

Baylor Scott and White spokeswoman Tiya Searcy said toys are a method of therapeutic play for child patients and can help them cope during their diagnoses and hospital stays.

“Toys are gifted to our patients over the holidays to give them a magical Christmas experience despite their circumstance, but they also allow our Child Life team to provide toys to patients and their siblings year-round to help create a child-friendly environment,” said Searcy.

These donations are given to patients year-round to promote hospital play. It has been shown to help improve the condition and/ or distract children of their circumstances.

The hospital is in need of mobiles, tech toys, action figures, card games, mega blocks, teen items and light-up baby toys.

Anyone is welcomed to donate new, unwrapped toys to the Child Life Department now through Dec. 21.
