VAN ZANDT COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - A former NFL linebacker was killed in a crash involving 3 vehicles Thursday night in Van Zandt County.

According to DPS officials, around 10 p.m., a Lincoln Limousine, driven by Isiah Robertson Jr., 69, of Garland, was traveling north on State Highway 198 at an unsafe speed.

The vehicle lost control on the wet roads in a curve and went into a side skid, coming to rest partially on the roadway facing west.

Another vehicle also traveling north struck the limo, pushing it into the southbound lanes of traffic where it struck a passenger vehicle.

Robertson was transported to an Athens hospital where he later died.

According to NFL.com, Robertson was a Pro Bowl linebacker who played for the Los Angeles Rams from 1971-78 before ending his NFL career with the Buffalo Bills.

According to Grand Prairie ISD, Robertson had been the speaker at a high school football banquet at Grand Prairie High School last night before leaving the event between 8:30 p.m. and 9 p.m.

“He was very supportive through the season," said Jalah Gray, Grand Prairie High School Campus Life Coordinator. "He had pretty much adopted our football program and was working to fund some camps and help some of our players go on to play in college. He was an amazing man of God. He was living to give back. His testimony will be never be forgotten”

No one else involved in the crash was seriously injured.
