Three new sculptures are scheduled to be built in downtown Waco.

Based on the tragic tornado that struck in 1953, Creative Waco plans to build metal spiral kinetic sculptures that will spin in the wind, symbolizing the tornado.

The organization presented the plan to the Waco City Council and they were all on board with the project.

Creative Waco sees these sculptures as a representation of the perseverance and community of Waco.

"It's a really important way of saying, you know this was a disaster that could have struck anywhere, but Waco handled it in a very unique way and the way that we rose from the ashes as a community defines who we are now," said Fiona Bond, Executive Director of Creative Waco.

Creative Waco hopes that the sculptures will be built and ready for a debut by the end of February 2019.
