The Caritas of Waco recently bought a Doosan G25N-7LP Forklift thanks to a grant from the Waco Foundation and by funds from the Grainger Foundation.
Caritas is one of the largest providers of food pantry services in the Central Texas Food Bank coverage areas, receiving large shipments of food and non-food products every day.
In 2017, Caritas received on average 45,000 pounds of food each workday. They distributed approximately 17,000 pounds of food each day through its pantry and fed over 91,000 people.
In addition to food, Caritas also operates the "Gifts-in-kind" program distributing merchandise items to other non-profit organizations with the help of the Waco Walmart Return Center.
Caritas received and distributed 1.9 million pounds of such merchandise to approximately 125 non-profit organizations in the Waco-area and other regions, in 2017 as well.
This level of acquisition and distribution of products requires a regular use of forklifts in the Caritas warehouse, which results in a lot of "wear and tear" on the equipment. As a result, the foundation has experienced notable expenses for the repairs, especially since these forklifts were previously owned.
Due to the conditions of these forklifts, Caritas was in need of a new forklift to retire their oldest unit.
Grant funds from the Waco and Grainger Foundations have allowed the organization the opportunity to buy a brand new forklift to help with the movements of products and reduce the amount of money spent on repairs of aging equipment.
