Prominent Central Texas Bishop Nathaniel Holcomb has died, the Christian House of Prayer announced on its website.

Holcomb was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1976, he moved with his family to Los Angeles where he had a recording contract with Motown Records, according to the Christian House of Prayer.

His family joined the Crenshaw Christian Center, where Holcomb said his faith led him to void his commitment to Motown Records.

When he was 28 years old, Holcomb joined the United States Army and was first stationed at Fort Jackson, South Carolina and later to Fort Hood.

In January 1980, while stationed at Fort Hood, Holcomb began a bible study. The bible study quickly turned into the Christian House of Prayer Ministries in Killeen.

The church began with an original membership of 13 people and is now one of the largest ministries in Central Texas.

Christian House of Prayer is located at 3300 E. Stan Schlueter Loop.
