The Waco-McLennan County Office of Emergency Management holds several training sessions throughout the year to make sure they are prepared for any event. The virtual tabletop exercise held with FEMA focused on active shooter situations.

The virtual tabletop exercise allows agencies to talk through real-life scenarios and then discuss their response with others participating from all over the country. This allows agencies from all over the country to exchange ideas and potentially use them in their emergency situations.

"But to actually put yourself in the moment and talk through it, it's as real as it can get without actually doing a full-scale exercise. So this is the opportunity to do that," said the Coordinator of Emergency Management Frank Patterson.

As sports tourism grows larger in the area with events like the Ironman Triathlon, the office of emergency management has used these training opportunities to focus on sports events and large gatherings of people.
