College Station police have found a parent of a child found early Wednesday morning. Her mother has been arrested.

Police said they found a 4-year-old girl just before 8 a.m. near Rio Grande Boulevard and Harvey Mitchell Parkway.

A parent was located thanks to tips, according to police.

Police said that the child was wandering in and out of traffic. Police were able to locate the girl's mother in an apartment a few blocks away. Officials say that the mother was not aware the child was missing.

The mother left the home to give plasma and when she returned, her daughter was no longer in bed, which was a small mattress on the floor. Police said she did not inform the two other adults in the apartment that she was leaving her child in the household.

Police said that even after noticing the girl was not home, the mother allegedly did not make an effort to find or check on the girl. According to the arrest affidavit, the mother said she assumed the girl was somewhere else in the apartment.

When officers made contact with the mother, she was not even aware she was missing.

The mother, identified as Stephanie Case, 39, was arrested and charged with abandoning or endangering a child.
