The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team placed two players on this week’s D3football.com Team of the Week. Jefferson Fritz and Aaron Sims were both honored for their performances in the Cru’s 80-7 win over Louisiana College.

Fritz, a sophomore safety from Kaufman High School, tied for the team lead with six total tackles and he also blocked a Wildcat field goal attempt. Fritz added a pass break-up to lead a UMHB defense that forced seven turnovers and held LC to just seven points and 156 yards of total offense in the game.

Sims, a freshman wide receiver and kick returner from Cameron Yoe High School, had a 74-yard punt return for a touchdown to give him three punt returns for scores on the season. That return also helped UMHB break the American Southwest Conference single-season record with six punt returns for touchdowns. Sims also caught a nine-yard touchdown pass to give him touchdowns on his only two touches in the game.

UMHB is now 9-0 overall and 8-0 in ASC play on the season and has clinched the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Championships. The Cru will travel to Marshall this Saturday to take on East Texas Baptist (6-3, 6-2 ASC) in a 2 pm kickoff. UMHB can clinch the outright conference title and the program’s ninth undefeated regular season with a victory over the Tigers.
