Chisholm Trail Elementary School within Belton ISD went on a soft lockdown on Friday morning that was lifted by 10:10 a.m.

Elizabeth Cox with Belton ISD said the lockdown was due to a law enforcement matter.

Paul Romer with Belton police said law enforcement are searching for a man on foot. The chase began in Williamson County when the man led police on a vehicle pursuit. The man left the car, and now law enforcement are searching for him in the Belton area.

Georgetown police said that a woman in Williamson County reported to police that a man was sitting in front of her home in an unknown car. After running the plates, authorities found out the vehicle was stolen out of the Pflugerville area.

The man led police on a chase reaching speeds up to 80 mph to 100 mph.

He drove into the Belton area around 8:30 a.m. and left the car on Boxer Street.

Belton police did not participate in the search for the man, but did monitor the area around the school to make sure the suspect could not enter the campus.

A K9 and DPS helicopter were used to locate the suspect.

Inside the building, classes will go on as usual during a soft lockdown but no one is allowed inside or outside of the school.
