Fort Hood to host Retiree Appreciation Day

The 44th annual Retiree Appreciation Day is set to be held starting on Friday.

The event's purpose is to celebrate all of those from all services who have served the nation.

The event will begin with a retiree golf tournament at the Courses at Clear Creek on October 26. Then in the afternoon, the III Corps will host the monthly retirement celebration at 4 p.m. at the III Corps Headquarters flagpole.

This month, 28 retiring service members will be honored.

On Saturday, the event kicks off at 6 a.m. with a free breakfast at Club Hood, with an opening ceremony at 9 a.m. with guest speaker Lt. Col. Thomas McKenna.

There will also be a County Fair from 8 - 9 a.m. at Club Hood, legal assistance from 8 a.m.- 4 p.m., health fair by Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center providing immunizations, blood pressure checks and other routine health screenings.

The Department of Veterans Affairs Mobile Veteran Center will set up in the parking lot of the Copeland Center to assist veterans with any issues or questions regarding benefits and entitlements.

The 1st Cavalry Division Horse Detachment will conduct a demonstration at the stables behind the visitor’s center beginning at 2 p.m.
