Thousands of early voters have cast their ballots across Central Texas. In Bell County alone that number is more than 8,000.

As early voting continues, candidates are making their way around the state of Texas.

On Tuesday, Governor Greg Abbott held a "Get Out the Vote" event in Belton.

Independent voter Lynn Leher says hearing from candidates is important.

"I don't vote along strict party lines. I try to learn what I can about the issues," Leher said.

Issues she says Texas Governor Gregg Abbott addressed during his "Get Out the Vote" Event in Belton.

"There was a lot of talk about things that are important to me, protecting the border, lowering taxes,"  Leher said.

"To make Texas a better place. To make sure that we cut taxes. Make our schools better. Keep our community safe," said Governor Abbott.

Alongside U.S. Representative John Carter and Brad Buckley, who is seeking election to the Texas House of Representatives, the governor rallied for people to vote on Election Day.

"You vote, we win. You don't vote, we lose," said Representative Carter.

"The election that you're going to be voting in right now is about the next generation," said Governor Abbott.

Former Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez who is facing Abbott in the race for governor is also rallying around Texas on a 10-day statewide Fair Shot Bus Tour.

Leher said after reviewing both candidates she is ready to cast her ballot.

"We're going to as soon as we leave here," said  Leher.
