TEMPLE, TX (KXXV) -

Police are searching for a man suspected of stealing nearly $5,000 worth of merchandise from a smoke shop in Temple.

The owners of That Smoke Shop in Temple contacted Temple police on Wednesday after discovering that one of their employees was stealing from them for weeks.

The owners said their employee, Gary Grooms, worked for them for close to a year but over the last few weeks he was coming to the store in the early morning hours to steal merchandise.

On more than one occasion, Grooms brought a woman with him. They were seen on security cameras taking pictures of display cases and leaving with stolen items.

They said the last time they heard from Grooms was through a text telling them he was quitting and moving to Arizona.

One man, who offered some information to the shop, said Grooms also owes him money. He also gave them the name of the woman allegedly with him on the security cameras.

The man confirmed that Grooms did move to Arizona. When the man went down to the shop and asked about Grooms, they told him he hasn't worked there for a couple of weeks.

The owners of That Smoke Shop are offering a cash reward for any information that could lead to Groom’s arrest.
