The family of a toddler seen in surveillance video being abandoned on a doorstep in Spring, Texas has been found.

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said abandonment charges are likely for the woman seen in the video, who is not the mother of the 2-year-old.

The entire ordeal began on Wednesday night when a homeowner found the 2-year-old standing alone on her doorstep in the 307000 block of Legends Ridge Drive.

Surveillance video shows a woman run with the boy to the door, ring the doorbell, knock and run back her car before driving away. The incident lasted 23 seconds.

Deputies arrived and canvassed the neighborhood on Wednesday night, but did not find anyone who recognized the boy.

The boy is uninjured and appears to be in good health, the sheriff's office said. Child Protective Services took custody of the child and brought him to a foster family.

On Thursday, local media asked a man leaving his home in the neighborhood if they knew anything about the child. After being shown the video, the man said he was the boy's father.

Detectives arrived to speak with the man, who said the boy's mother sent him a text saying a friend would drop him off in the early afternoon on Wednesday. When the child did not show up, the father assumed the plans had changed so he left his home for the evening.

The sheriff's office said the mother has been identified, as well as the woman in the video. The mother said she was in the hospital on Wednesday and had a friend drop the boy off. She was discharged from the hospital on Thursday morning.

The woman dropped off the child around 8:40 p.m. after the father left his home - but at the wrong house. She left without verifying anyone was home or who she was leaving the child with. The sheriff's office said in doing so, it placed the child in grave danger.

The sheriff's office said although the woman has not been found, they do not believe she is on the run.

The district attorney's office is looking into child abandonment charges for the woman in the video. Child abandonment is a third-degree felony.

Detectives are working with CPS to reunite the boy with the family.

The sheriff's office will continue to investigate.
