(KXXV/AP) – Houston firefighters and police officers rescued a pony from a storm drain in Houston Wednesday.

The Houston Fire Department responded to the 4700 block of Simsbrook after it appeared the small pony fell into a storm drain.

According to the Associated Press, a Houston police officer was checking on a vehicle when he noticed a nearby manhole cover was off and heard a noise.

Emergency crews cut open the concrete surrounding the drain and were able to get the pony out.

The pony was reportedly drinking water and strong enough to walk. It's being checked out by a veterinarian.
