Student, bus driver rescued after driver attempts to drive around barricade

A bus driver has been fired and arrested for trying to drive around a barricade, causing the bus to get swept away. 

Leander ISD said that the incident happened just before 8:30 a.m. Tuesday on CR 177 heading east from Ronald Regan Boulevard toward CR 175. 

The district said that a bus driver attempted to cross a low-water crossing, driving around a barricade and getting swept away. The driver and a student on the bus had to be rescued by Leander police and fire departments.

The bus driver was arrested and fired from the school district. 

The child was checked out by EMS and released to their family. 

 No other details were released.
