Texas gas prices are up from 2017. The average for regular unleaded fuel is $2.67 a gallon, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.

That price is up two cents more than this day last week and is 34 cents more per gallon compared to last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed, Midland is paying the most on an average of $3.08 a gallon, and drivers in McAllen are paying $2.58.

The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $2.91, which is 43 cents more than this day last year. Daniel Ambruster, AAA Texas/AAA New Mexico spokesperson, said Fall gas prices have not been this expensive since 2014.

Michael's effect on gas

Analysts believe that Hurricane Michael, now downgraded to a tropical storm, is not affecting critical Gulf Coast refineries or pipelines. However, with heavy rain and high winds, the tropical storm may cause power outages to the Colonial Pipeline and could lead to delivery disruptions to local gas stations in Florida, Alabama and Mississippi.
