Crime rates are down, nearly across the board, in Corsicana.

The Corsicana Police Department reports that compared to last year, total arrests are down by 10 percent. Aggravated assaults have decreased by more than 16 percent.

Robberies are down by nearly 50 percent and burglaries are down by 22 percent.

911 calls have also decreased by about 10 percent.

There was a 12 percent increase in motor vehicle theft.

Corsicana police say they owe their success to the community that helps serve as their eyes and ears.

"If something is going on in their neighborhood, they're there 24/7," said Ofc. Sean Eggleston. "When we're patrolling, we can only do so much. By them helping us out, it takes a burden off of us and when they see us getting out there and being proactive with them, helping them and working together, it just makes a safer community for all."

Eggleston said they hope to strengthen this bond even more at their National Night Out event on Oct. 2. The event will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in front of City Hall.
