A church in Belton is now one step closer to getting some much-needed restoration.

On Tuesday, the Belton City Council voted to approve a grant application from the Mount Zion United Methodist Church that would provide much-needed funding for restoration.

The grant will come from the U.S. Department of Interior National Park Service and will allow the city to partner with the church in order to restore the original sanctuary that has been there since the late 1800s.

The city said they are happy to help the church and preserve an important part of Belton’s history.

The grant is still in the early stages of the application process.

If the Department of the Interior approves the grant, they will receive $230,000 to put towards repairs.
