When a patient completes their program and is leaving the Blind Rehab Clinic at the Waco V.A. Hospital, a graduation ceremony is held in their honor. Today the ceremony included birthday cake.

Joe Wright, a World War II Veteran, received his certificate for completing the program, but he also received a cake in celebration of his 94th birthday on Sunday. Patients and staff joined in on the celebration and wished Wright well as he goes home.

Some people claim to have the secret to a long life, but Wright is not one of them.

"I don’t really know the secret. I do know that I never expected to reach this age when I was younger, but it is a total surprise to me," Wright said.

Wright is no stranger to celebrating birthdays at the V.A.’s Waco Blind Rehab Center. Two years ago, he celebrated his 92nd birthday while at the facility.
