It's a little more than a week after the 17th anniversary of 9/11 and Fort Hood is still remembering the day thousands of Americans lost their lives from the terror attack.

This morning the 13th Expeditionary Sustainment Command hosted a memorial rededication.

The 13th ESC honored the 111 soldiers and airmen who have passed away while serving in the 13th ESC since 9/11 when the global war on terrorism began.

This year, the 13th ESC honored the family of Chaplain Alton Raymond Kieschnick, who died 47 years ago in a plane crash when he returned from a training event to Fort Hood.

On behalf of the United States Congress, his family was presented with Gold Star lapel pins.

Alton Raymond Kieschnick's son, Greg Kieschnick, said it makes him feel good that his father was out there to help benefit other people in the country.

"My father gave his service to this country and I'm proud that he did," said Geg Kieschnick.

In 1947, an Act of Congress established the Gold Star lapel pins to issue to immediate family members of service members killed in peacetime and combat.

A wreath was also laid during today's ceremony in honor of those who have fallen.

Each year, the 13th ESC celebrates its birthday the third week of September.

The memorial rededication is held on the final day of the celebration to honor those who sacrificed their lives while serving with the 13th ESC since 9/11.
