The Brazos County Health Department has confirmed a human case of the West Nile Virus in Brazos County. This is the first confirmed case in the county since 2016.

The case was confirmed by the Texas Department of State Health Services.

They said that mosquitoes trapped from one location the week of September 10 in Brazos County tested positive for the virus.

Brazos County Health Department officials have notified mosquito control personnel with the City of Bryan, City of College Station, and Texas A&M University.

All Brazos County residents are urged to keep up their defenses and practice the Four D’s:

• Drain standing water around the house, including tires, cans, flowerpots, rain gutters, buckets, wading pools, puddles, etc. Trim grass and shrubs and do not over water lawns and gardens.

• Wear insect repellent containing DEET.

• Stay indoors at dusk and dawn when mosquitoes are most active.

• Dress in long sleeves and pants when outdoors to prevent bites.
