A flag recently raised at a North Carolina light tower seen torn from intense winds during Hurricane Florence will be replaced thanks to a donation from flagandbanner.com.

Millions watched as the flag at Frying Pan Tower stood through rain and winds that were gusting over 80 mph as the hurricane approached land.

Volunteers plan to replace the flag as soon as possible with a new American-made flag sponsored by flagandbanner.com.

"Old Glory represents all of us as Americans. Together, WE are America and we decide to pick up, start again and sew our tattered lives back together after the storms of life pass through," a post on the light tower's Facebook page said.

The flag was replaced a few weeks prior to the storm, fully expecting to fly for about a month.

The flag will be brought to shore and given to the American Red Cross. Volunteers who run the Facebook page say they hope the flag will be auctioned, and the proceeds used to help those in need.

Frying Pan Light Tower is privately owned Coast Guard light station about 34 miles off the coast of North Carolina. Volunteers are working to restore the light station and turn it into a bed and breakfast.

The tower has stood since 1964 and was last continuously lit in 1992.
