With the gridiron gauntlet of the Big 12 Conference looming, the 1-1 Red Raiders have a huge non-conference finale as they host Houston at 3:15 p.m. Saturday.
Texas Tech opened a 2-and-a-half point favorite, but the Vegas line has changed and now Houston is favored by 1.
Coach Kliff Kingsbury knows this is huge game for his team.
"I think it's the natural progression," Kingsbury said. "You want to continue to be able to continue to play better and be at your best when you reach conference, so hopefully we respond this week and play our best game yet and build some confidence going into the first conference game."
Houston's defense loves to cause turnovers, so Red Raider wide receiver Ja'Deion High knows the offense needs to be ready.
"They run a lot of zone concepts," High said. "They're real aggressive, got two good defensive linemen. Looking forward to seeing what they do, great players, they cover well. So we'll see what they have when we match up."
Offensively, Houston loves to be fast-paced, which is exactly what the Red Raider defense sees in practice, so Broderick Washington feels they'll be prepared to keep up with the Cougars lighting-pace.
"I like going against a tempo because that's all we're going to see in the Big 12 when we get into conference anyway. But the things we're doing in practice to prepare for it, we're going really fast. Like really, really fast. I feel like when Saturday comes and we actually do face the tempo in the game, I feel like we'll be well prepared for it," Washington said.
