Crews are responding to a house fire early Wednesday morning in the 8900 block of Raven Drive near Woodway.

Oncor workers were in the neighborhood around 3 a.m. working on a power outage issue when they spotted the fire and alerted 911.

Dr. Dale Allen, a former Baylor professor, was the only one who lived in the home, which is considered a total loss. Woodway Public Safety Director Bret Crook said Allen was taken to a hospital in Waco after suffering second-degree burns on 13 percent of his body.

Emergency personnel found him passed out in the hallway when the house was on fire, according to his daughter.

Two public safety officers were also injured. One was taken to Providence Hospital for smoke inhalation, the other went to an urgent care clinic for a knee injury, Crook said.

As of 6:20 a.m., the fire was under control but still burning.

According to the Woodway Public Safety Department, it's not uncommon to have fires in the dry summer months, but to have three major structure fires so close together in the middle of the night is unusual.

It is not known that Oncor Electric was working on the power to the house in the most recent Woodway fire.

The Fire Marshal has asked the ATF to assist and rule out anything suspicious and will be working with the homeowner's insurance company to determine the cause.
